Cumming sits between Lake Lanier and Sawnee Mountain. Lake Lanier was created when Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River began operating in 1956. On Sawnee Mountain, the 963-acre Sawnee Mountain Preserve has hiking trails up to the Indian Seats, a rock formation with views of the North Georgia mountains. In town, Cumming City Center is a 75-acre property with the Lou Sobh Amphitheatre, and each October the city hosts the 10-day Cumming Country Fair & Festival.
