Kennesaw is a Cobb County city about 27 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta by I-75, known for its railroad history and for Kennesaw Mountain. It's also a place where the mailing address can mislead you: many homes with a Kennesaw address are outside the city limits, and that changes the property taxes and city services that come with a home.
With well over 100 homes sold across North Metro Atlanta, we help clients compare Kennesaw's areas side by side, price homes with real-time data, and negotiate from listing or offer to closing.

Kennesaw was known as Big Shanty until its 1887 charter, a name that came from the workers' camps built along the Western and Atlantic Railroad in the late 1830s. On April 12, 1862, it was the staging ground for the Great Locomotive Chase. Today downtown centers on Depot Park, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park sits just southeast of the city limits, and Kennesaw State University is nearby.

A Kennesaw Address Isn't Always in Kennesaw
Why the city line matters for taxes and services.
Inside the City of Kennesaw
The city covers about 10 square miles. Owners inside the city limits pay City of Kennesaw property taxes, billed by the city's Finance Department, and can apply for the city's exemption for homeowners 65 and older. Public schools are run by the Cobb County School District.
Kennesaw Addresses Outside the City
The 30144 and 30152 ZIP codes cover about 44 square miles, and roughly three times as many people live in them as inside the city. Homes outside the city limits don't pay City of Kennesaw property taxes. Some homes inside the City of Acworth also use a Kennesaw mailing address.
Before you fall in love with a listing, confirm whether it's inside the city limits, which city or county taxes apply, and which exemptions you can claim. We'll help you confirm all three before you write an offer. For school assignments, go straight to the Cobb County School District.
